About IFS
Internal Family Systems (IFS) is a psychotherapy that was developed in the 1980s by Richard Schwartz. He was working as a systemic family therapist when he noticed that the work he did with individuals was very similar to his work with families.
It is a model that embraces multiplicity of mind. If you’ve ever had the an experience like ‘part of me wants…., but another part of me thinks this…’, then this may be something you resonate with. Our multiplicity is our internal system; an eco structure that is us, our personality and the way our we expresses ourselves in the world. Our internal system is made up of parts. These parts really benefit from some space and time to communicate with us. To tell us about their experiences, needs and wants. We can start to find that when we look after them the whole eco system things in life start to work a little more smoothly or even effectively. It is a beautifully structured model that has a clear way of working.
I am level 1 trained in IFS and receive regular supervision on this model (in addition to the supervision I receive for my core therapeutic modality).
